Once in a lifetime, water flowing underground

And you may ask yourself, well…How did I get here?

I did something crazy this week, something I’ve been thinking about for several years. I left the private sector, and my VP title that I worked years to achieve, and started as a Presidential Innovation Fellow (https://presidentialinnovationfellows.gov/) In this new role, I’ll be working with the Department of Justice to solve some really meaty challenges in the digital space and work on something that has been near and dear to my heart for years: accessibility.

I decided to detail this journey here in Medium. My hope is that at the end of each month, I can reflect on the prior 30 or so days and uncover new insights about the role, about myself and about the #civicTech space. I’m excited to jump into something new, something rewarding and something that I’ve been missing in my previous work: purpose.

I hope I can share some interesting anecdotes and that my personal experiences can help others decide if this is something that they want to try out. I read a lot about the program before I applied and between you and I, this was my second year of having a shot at it, and I took it. I’m optimistic about what lies ahead and in this year of “abnormal is the new normal”, I hope the role becomes a calm presence that rounds out an otherwise chaotic year.

Once in a lifetime, water flowing underground…
